Thorough Examination of the Courier-Journal (Reponse to the Class Project)

On behalf of the White Day Courier Journal group, sorry.

When I signed up for the Courier Journal group, I really didn't think it would be any harder than the TV group,s maybe even easier, since the work would be done in class. Clearly, it's been a bit harder than any of us expected.

On the first day, every person in our Courier Journal group went through every article in the newspaper together and categorized them into several different categories. This worked, but took way too long. On the second day, we talked through things together and put the articles into fewer categories which took less time, but it was still too long. Finally, on the third day, we divided the work into four sections and each did a job. At first, the process worked fine - we got done on time and with relatively little disagreement. But it didn't take long for our errors to surface. Our numbers didn't add up.

The four of us spent the rest of the block counting, recounting, and triple-counting each and every article in the entire newspaper, re-categorizing them, and repeating, time and time over. Finally, after close to an hour and a half spent counting newspaper articles, our numbers came out equal.

While this was tedious and stressful, it taught me an important lesson about journalism. There are going to be times when your numbers don't add up, or something goes wrong, and you will be the one tasked with fixing the mistake. It isn't going to be fun, or easy, but journalism is first and foremost dedicated to the truth, and that's our job as journalists.

It took our group a lot of time to get the numbers right, but we had to do it to report the truth. I'm thankful to my group for their shared dedication to the project, and to Mr. Miller, who allowed us the time it took to get it right.

Our group takes full blame for the confusion we've caused, but we've learned from our errors and we're actively trying to keep them from happening.
